BD/DVD/CD indicates Blue Ray

Disk Duplication refers to simple
copying: one to many disks. qdf
Duplication refers to copying from an existing master and typically
entails a large number of copies.
Disk Publishing ability (e.g. FAR291) refers
to the following types of jobs:
Short runs, each disk different,
mailmerge of names printed on the disk, serialised numbers printed, better networking.
Disk
publishing often involves a new master being created, or a only small number of
copies are to be burnt.
There may be a need to create the disk image (or edit
an existing one) prior to burning, so the device needs to be linked to a PC.
Publishing
includes: short runs, each disk different, mailmerge of names printed on the disk,
serialised numbers printed, better networking.
PC
connection is also necessary where there is a need to perform disk printing in
conjunction with the copying or publishing processthe LCD screens provided
on the publishing device itself are hardly suited to editing disk titles.
Anyone
wanting to make a small number of copies of different discs will find the Batch
Mode recording function on many of our duplicators of huge benefit.
Interleave
master discs followed by the desired number of blanks in supporting systems and
they will automatically read in each master when loaded, and copy that image until
the next master is encountered.
The number of copies of each is dictated by
the number of blank discs between Masters.
When completed, the pile of discs
consists of Master 1 followed by copies of 1, Master 2 followed by copies of 2,
etc.

N.B. Printing is not supported while Batch Mode recording as the controlling systems do not know what to print on the recorded discs - only what to burn!
These two concepts should be at the top of any list of important features to look for when buying a CD or DVD production system.
Burning
/ Printing Ratios: When printing and burning discs it is important to minimize
the chances of hitting a production bottleneck, as burning a disk takes longer
than printing the disk.
A "one drive" duplicator" will not
produce disks as fast as a disk printer can print them.
An 8 burner duplicator spitting out 8 discs every 3 minutes does not match a printer which can only complete one or two discs in the same time!
While it can change depending upon the specific printer and robotics, as a rule of thumb, we suggest a 2:1 burner to printer ratio with CD systems, and 4:1 with DVD systems because DVDs take longer to burn.
Redundancy: In production systems minimizing downtime is essential. We often suggest production clients buy two or more smaller systems in place of one big system. While we always want our equipment to work reliably should something go wrong it is far better to lose 50% or less of your production in place of 100%! If the systems are burn and print systems then it can also allow better flexibility in getting the best RATIO of printers and burners. Dont forget that this strategy can also dramatically increase your disc capacity.
Burning speeds: Even though disks may be rated at 52x for CDs, or 16x for DVDs, for good quality copies and the least number of rejects, lower speeds are generally used. e.g. x16 is widely used for duplicating audio CDs, and x8 for DVDs.

The
name Blu-ray Disc is derived from the blue-violet laser used to read and write
this type of disc.
Because of its shorter wavelength (405 nm), substantially
more data can be stored on a Blu-ray Disc than on the DVD format, which uses a
red (650 nm) laser.
A single layer Blu-ray Disc can store 25 gigabytes (GB),
over five times the size of a single layer DVD at 4.7 GB.
A dual layer Blu-ray
Disc can store 50 GB, almost six times the size of a dual layer DVD at 8.5 GB.

Recording
times: qdf lls
hmf
CD recording depends on what speed of burning you choose. Here are approximate
recording times at each speed:
1X : 74 mins (650MB) 12X : 6.0
mins (650 MB) 24X : 3.0 mins (650 MB) 32X: 2.25min 48X:
1.5 min (650 MB)
Note: recording at lower speeds can give better quality
disks.
Data rate of x1 speed is 150KBytes/sec.
Time must be added to
allow for the robotic mechanism to change over the disks.
DVD
recording time has little relationship to the video or audio playing time of the
DVD because of data compression..
DVD recording time depends on speed of the
recorder and amount of data (MB or GB GigaBytes).
16x DVD-R and +R writing speeds: DVD writing drive will burn a full single layer DVD, 4.7GB, in around 4 minutes.
Audio
CD information:
CD Digital Audio format "Red Book" is encoded by starting with a source
sound file, and sampling it to convert it to digital format.
CD-DA audio
uses a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, which is roughly double the highest frequency
audible by humans (around 22 kHz.)
Each sample is 16 bits (2 bytes) in size,
and the sampling is done in stereo.
Therefore, each second of stereo sound
takes 44,100 * 2 bytes * 2 channels, which is 176,400 bytes per second.
Audio
data is stored on the disk in blocks, which are also sometimes called sectors.
Each block holds 2,352 bytes of data, with an additional number of bytes
used for error detection and correction, as well as control structures.
Therefore,
the number of blocks required for each second of sound is 176,500/2352 = 75 blocks.
On a standard 74-minute CD then, the total amount of storage is (2,352 bytes
* 75 blocks * 74 min * 60 sec.),
which is 783,216,000 bytes or about 747
MB. Note: this is the 74-minute audio CD format, not the data CD
format (see next item).
So, a minute of
uncompressed CD audio uses about 10 MB.
Data
CD: CD-ROM information: "Yellow
Book", High Sierra and ISO 9660
Mode 1: This is the standard data
storage mode used by virtually all standard data CDs.
The data is laid out
in basically the same way as it is in standard audio CD format, except that the
2,352 bytes of data in each block are broken down further.
2,048 of these
bytes are for "real" data. The other 304 bytes are used for an additional
level of error detecting and correcting code.
This is necessary because data
CDs cannot tolerate the loss of a handful of bits now and then, the way audio
CDs can.
Total data capacity of 74 minute
Data CD is 2048/2352 x 747MB = 650 MB (80 minute CDs can hold 700MB
of data)
Mode 2: Mode 2 data CDs are the same as mode 1 CDs except
that the error detecting and correcting codes are omitted.
Hmm. Why would
they define this then, when it is so similar to standard audio CDs?
The reason
is that mode 2 format provides a more flexible vehicle for storing types of data
that do not require high data integrity: for example, graphics and video can use
this format. Furthermore, different kinds can be mixed together; this is the basis
for the extensions to the original data CD standards known as CD-ROM Extended
Architecture, or CD-ROM XA.
"Multi-session"
CDs can have more than one set of data on the disk, recorded at different
times, and therefore use multiple tables of contents, one per session.
The
table of contents is also sometimes called the index of the disk.
CD+G format is used
for karaoke and contains music and graphics.
The R-Quest duplicators with
part numbers starting TCA and TCP support CD+G format.
None of the other
machines support it.
This format contains some sub-code on the CD which requires
special drives and controllers to support it.
Note
that commercial DVDs containing copyright material such as movies, are encrypted
and double layered.
The decryption keys are stored on the disk in lead in
area, which is inaccessible to DVD readers & copiers, and so these DVDs are
not readable if copied.
Video Info:
The native format of all digital formats is Y Cr Cb. In PAL
countries substitute V for Cr, and U for Cb: YVU.
Y is the
luminance signal (brightness) derived from RGB as a mixture of 58.7%
G, plus 29.9% R, plus 11.4% B.
The Cb and Cr (V and U) components carry the
chrominance information (colour) of the picture.
They are
mathematically derived from the original RGB and -Y (inverted luminance) information,
Cr is 0.877(Red -Y), and Cb is 0.493(Blue - Y).

ECB seriesThe standard models (ECB1603, ECB1607) have a DVD-ROM
drive for the master,
and 3 or 7 DVD/CD recording drives for making the
copies.
Hence these models will copy from the master disc directly to 3 or
7 blanks in one run.
The Pro models (ECB1603P, ECB1607P,
ECB1611P) have a 160GB hard disk drive and 3, 7 or 11 DVD/CD recording
drives.
ECL1610P CopyLink DVD/CD 10 Drive can link to other ECL1610P's
as slaves, for increasing the number of simultaneously copied disks. See below
for more information.
With the Pro models, you can use one disk drive to
read the master, leaving one less drive for writing the blank disks, or
in
order to record the maximum number of copies, the master disc can be copied to
the hard drive first, before starting to produce copies. Once the master has been
read onto the hard drive, the machines will then copy 3, 7 or 11 blanks per run.
Multiple CD or DVD images may be stored on the hard drive at once, for quick
retrieval.
Note that these models do not connect to a PC, so they always require a master CD or DVD to read the content from (either onto the hard drive or direct to the blank CDs/DVDs).
Recording Speeds:
A full 700MB CD-R takes approx. 4 minutes 15 seconds per run, at the reliable speed of x16.
DVD recording time has little relationship
to the video or audio playing time of the DVD because of data compression..
DVD
recording time depends on speed of the recorder and amount of data (MB or GB GigaBytes).
At the maximum speed, typically to burn a full 4.7GB DVD-R (single
layer) it takes approx 6 minutes 35 seconds per run.
For a full 8.5GB DVD+R
DL it takes approx. 18 minutes 45 seconds per run.
However better quality disks
may be obtained by burning at slower speeds.
The above times are
to burn the number of blanks that the machine can do at once,
i.e. a 7 drive
tower will produce 7 discs in the above quoted time.

Pro versions have a 160GB hard disk.

Record and Label your Discs in One Session
The DUET 400 is the smallest complete disc publishing product on
the market today.
It includes the recorder, printer, recording software from
Sonic, and SureThing label software from MicroVision.
Just one simple insertion
and you get a professional looking disc.
No stomping, no punch-out labels,
no need to flip the disc overjust a clean print on inkjet printable discs.
Its the next wave of information and art, technology and aesthetics.
The Duet 400 is based on patented, proprietary RadialPrint technology, which enables label printing to occur while the CD or DVD is rotating in the drive. With RadialPrint technology we can control the position of the ink cartridge, and while the media spins, we can place ink on any spot on the media with accuracy. This technology simplifies the users experience because the CD or DVD is inserted in only once device for both burning and printing, allowing the user to obtain professional looking results without the hassle of multiple steps and devices.
People who work in photography, videography, music and data storage
need a way to archive their data at minimal expense.
In addition, any business
that creates a DVD or CD for promotional use, or as a service to their clientele
will appreciate how easily the DUET 400 slips into their current environment.
The DUET 400 is small and mighty. It takes up the space of a phone on your desk and is designed for commercial-grade performance. The DUET 400 does not include expensive robotics. This design is perfect for those who create small batches of unique content.

High Performance Disc Publishing
Teacs new Explorer1 Disc Publishing
System is an on-demand network system that allows automated operations from data
writing to disc printing. Once the system receives instructions from single or
multiple client computers, the Explorer 1 can automatically record and print up
to 300 discs with a mix of CD or DVD discs.
The built-in high resolution thermal re-transfer printer uses dye-sublimation/thermal-fusion to produce 400dpi print quality on your discs. The result is the worlds best quality disc printing directly onto the surface of the disc. Coupled with the built-in CD/DVD recorders the system can handle various applications from low-volume production to mass production.
Also included is the precision rotary robotic arm, capable of performing fully automated operations including on-demand CD/DVD data copying and disc printing.
The Explorer1 is a state-of-the art system that combines all the elements listed above in one unit for space saving installation. The Explorer1 also has an API that can be easily controlled by other applications.

Archive Emails and Critical Data on Robust and Reliable Optical Media
OptiVault is a new archival appliance that backs up and quickly recovers all emails that are sent, received or deleted through Microsoft Exchange, including attachments. It operates unobtrusively in the background of your Exchange server, reliably backing up all emails on optical media.
When you need to recover emails from any mailbox for any date range OptiVault finds them on the appropriate backup discs and restores them automatically.
Because it uses non-erasable, non-rewritable media that can be stored off-site, OptiVault provides true WORM (Write Once Read Many) compliance. This is a critical specification to ensure compliance with Australian Corporations Law which requires financial documents (including email) to be retained for 5 years. Government Departments, under the Archive Act, need to retain emails for 7 years.
WORM technology is also highly desirable for any organization that needs to be able to quickly and reliably retrieve data and files of all types without over-burdening primary storage devices or media. Experts agree that optical media is the most rugged and reliable backup media available. Its archival life is measured in decades not just years.
