CD and DVD media come in three basic types:
Thermal printable, Inkjet Printable and "not machine printable" (ink from a printer will not adhere to the surface).
The first two above are normally white. Inkjet compatible surfaces are slightly porous.
"Wide" where specified means that the printable surface extends right in to the edge of the central hole
Disk Printers: There are Inkjet disk printers and Thermal disk printers, see the printer link above.
If there is no specification for thermal or inkjet printabiliy, then "not machine printable" may be assumed.

LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling is a new technology that offers consumers and businesses a simple, no-hassle way to burn professional, silkscreen-quality labels on their CDs or DVDs. Using the same laser that burns data in their disc drives, customers burn their data as always, flip the disc over, reinsert it into the drive and burn a precise and permanent iridescent label.
You must have a LightScribe-enabled disc drive (either built into your desktop or notebook PC or an external drive).
To see if you have a LightScribe-enabled disc drive, look for the LightScribe logo. Slim drives may not have space to show the logo.
You also need LightScribe label software and LightScribe system software.
