A1600 Series have Two Independent Serial Ports

They can be used for speed conversion, etc, between otherwise incompatible equipment. Use standard 72-pin no-parity SIMMs.
If the output device is not connected, the A1600 normally will not accept any input. Otherwise, use A1400 below. Please advise exact requirements.     Shipping weight: approx 700gm total.

The A1600 is labelled as “unidirectional”, however it does actually work in both directions, as does the A1610 which is called “bidirectional”.
The difference between the two units is that in the A1600, the memory buffer is allocated 90% to the input port and 10% to the output port, whereas in the A1610 the buffer is split evenly between the ports.   Data on  A1600 Series (.pdf)

Hence the A1600 is intended for use where the speeds of the two ports are similar and most of the data is sent in one direction,
or else where the speeds of the two ports are very different and hence most of the buffering would be needed on one side.

The A1610 is intended for applications where the data flow and port speeds are similar in both directions.

A1400 Series Data Logger and PABX Products with either RS232 or Ethernet output

The A1400 model in-line buffers are specially designed to take the RS232 output data from PABX telephone systems, and hold that data ready for transmission to a PC or modem as required.    9V Jack for external power.
The A1400 will never lock up, it auto-resets if there are any problems, without losing data.

The A1400DL is an RS-232 Serial Input / Serial Output device with battery backed data buffering.  Uses 200mA when not charging.
It may be used in simple Data Logging applications where a single input and single output are required.
The RS-232 configuration options include the selection of handshaking using
Robust Xon/Xoff   or   Hardware handshaking using either the DSR/DTR or RTS/CTS handshake pairs.
The input port is switch selectable to either DCE or DTE to simplify cable usage and may be independently configured at speeds ranging from 300 to 115,200bps using 7 or 8 data bits and None, Odd or Even Parity.  
Uses 72-pin 8-bit memory DRAM for hi speed (much faster than Flash memory which has limited write cycles).
The Output port is set to DCE only, this enables any output collecting device to be powered off or on while data logging goes on uninterrupted.
The A1400DL is available with a Modem and phone & RS232 cables. The RS232 Cable can be made so that either data is auto downloaded immediately when a modem connection is made, or when XON/XOFF control or hardware handshake is exercised. We do not ship the product with any software ... customers use their own, or a terminal program.
