Many of our customers use the dataTaker Modem Manager (MM-01) to send SMS messages.

Details of this are in the Modem Manager (MM-01) user manual, on page 33.

The messages is sent, when the “Action Text” of the alarm message begins with *& and ends with ::

An example of this is the following:
ALARM1(1DS>0.5)”*& This message will initiate a Call Out::”

Please refer to the manual for further information, or call Datataker technical support.

The settings for several service gateways are fixed within the Modem Manager. If the phone
number of the service gateway has changed, the settings of the Modem Manager can be
made to reflect these changes.

An example of this is the Telstra SMS access service in Australia.
The PSTN dial-up number was changed from 0180128767 to 12507. The Modem manager
will continue to work with the new phone number, as long as the change in the phone number
is made within the settings of the Modem Manager.

You can change the settings as follows
• Access the main menu in the Modem Manager.
• Under the main menu select option 4 Configuration
• Then select option 2 Pager/Fax Call-Out Settings.
• Enter the telephone number under option 2
• Please check that option 4, the Dial Out Settings, has the appropriate provider
selected. If not, under option 4, the Dial Out Settings, select option 2.
For example
[2] for Telstra AUSTRALIA Digital SMS 018018767.

Even though it lists the old PSTN dial up number, it will still work, as it will use the
number listed under option 2, the Telephone Number.

The Pager/Fax Menu should now look something like this
--- PAGER-FAX MENU ---

Enter the number to select Parameter to change...
[1] Site Identification < Datataker >
[2] Telephone Number < 125107 >
[3] Destination Address < Datataker >
[4] Dial Out Settings < IDD=010 Telstra AUS Digital SMS >
[5] Modem Call-Out String < AT >
[6] Return to Main Menu

Please check the baud rate required by your telephone provider for SMS access and if
necessary set the dataTaker Modem Manager accordingly.
If you have any questions, you can contact support at Datataker. Or if you have questions
regarding the telephone provider facilities please contact your provider.
