Remote PC Terminals for hazardous areas
The
660 Series indicators are loop powered units and the low voltage drop across their
input terminals allows them to be installed in almost any 2-wire, 4-20mA loop.
Large
liquid crystal displays make the process variables easily visible at a distance.
Process units are configured into the display area.
Instant readout of percentage
or loop current is available at the push of a button.
Field mounting units are housed in a rugged aluminium IP67, NEMA 4X case. ABS and GRP options are available for highly corrosive atmospheres.

The MTL661,
MTL662 and MTL663 digital indicators enable process variables to be
displayed
locally in hazardous and general purpose plant areas.
A typical example would
be the retransmission of mass/flow computations from the safe area,
through
a suitable MTL IS interface to the indicator in the hazardous area.
The displays
are loop powered from the 4-20mA process signal and their low voltage drop
allows
them to be installed in almost any 2-wire, 420mA transmitter loop.
All
units can indicate measured values in a linear or a square root extraction mode;
the latter being used, for example, to display flow from differential pressure
measurement devices
such as orifice plates, Dall tubes, or venturi.
The
MTL661 Field mounting unit is housed in a tough aluminium enclosure, suitable
for wall or pipe
mounting.
For corrosive atmospheres use either the MTL661-ABS
or MTL663 - their plastic cases provide
excellent resistance to harmful contaminents.
The MTL661-ABS can also be panel mounted by fixing the rear cover behind the
panel with an additional
gasket (GAS66).
MTL66x IS indicators are classified
as nonenergy storing simple apparatus so they can be
inserted into
any IS loop without recertification.

The MTL646/7 text displays are located in the hazardous area where they display alphanumeric data & graphics from a safe area host controller. This is transmitted by a serial data link passing through an MTL5051 isolating interface. This serves the dual purpose of isolating the IS indicator and converting RS232 or RS422 serial data to the MTL signal level and vice versa. Bi-directional communication permits operators to acknowledge messages and to request process action when necessary. If required, an audible or visual alarm can be connected to attract the operators attention.
A clear dot matrix display (128 x 64) can display text (in a number of sizes) and process graphics. The backlight permits operation during darkness. Operator control can be provided viea the front panel push buttons or via externa terminals to remote switches. These can be used for alarm acknowledgement, or to advance or stop the process.
The controller maintains master control, requiring all remote display units to respond to its commands. In multi-indicator applications, it transmits a block of information which includes the indicator type, address and data. Data is transmitted in the form of ASCII characters interpreted by the appropriate ndicator which either updates the display or responds with a reply such as indicator status or switch status. In single indicator applications, the protocol may be simplified to direct data transmission for communication with less sophisticated host units including PLCs, dedicated control instrumentation and weighing systems. The MTL646/7 may be configured to emulate the MTL643/4. Mechanical compatibility allows direct replacement with panel mounted MTL644 displays.
Two alarm outputs are provided for connection to suitable visual or audible alarm units to attract the operators attention.
The MTL647 field mounting unit is housed in a tough impact-resistant case designed to withstand the rigours of hostile weather conditions and harsh industrial environments. Ingress protection rating is IP66. It can be mounted directly onto a flat surface or, with an optional kit, onto vertical or horizontal pipes or posts.
The MTL646 panel mounting
unit is designed for DIN standard 72 x 144mm cut-out. The panel/unit seal is rated
at IP40 while, with standard snap-on mounting clips, the panel/unit
seal is rated IP40. This can be uprated to IP65 with the optional IPK68 sealing
kit.

The MTL643/4 IS text displays are located in the hazardous area where they display alphanumeric data from a safe-area host controller.
A clear and unambiguous alphanumeric display is provided by liquid crystal module with two lines of up to sixteen 9mm high characters. All 32 characters may be alphanumeric so process values, engineering units, tag idents and operator messages are easily displayed.
Operator control is provided by three external switches (not supplied) which are connected to terminals on the indicator and which can be used to acknowledge alarm messages and change process information such as the resetting of the tare in a weighing system.
A single alarm output (an opto-isolated open collector transistor output) is provided for connection to a suitable visual or audible alarm unit to attract the operators attention.
Error checking routines are carried out by the indicator, the result being stored in the status data register where it can be accessed by the host computer.
MTL643 field mounting unit is housed in a tough impact-resistant GRP case designed to withstand the rigours of hostile weather conditions and harsh industrial environments. Ingress protection rating is IP66. It can be mounted directly onto a flat surface or with an optional PIP68 kit, onto vertical or horizontal pipes or posts.
MTL644 panel mounting unit is designed for DIN standard
72 x 144mm cut-out. The front panel fascia is protected to IP65 The panel/unit
seal is rated IP40.

CHALLENGER
PC Terminals are an optimum solution for demanding tasks in on-site operation
and
visualization in Zone 1 / 2 / 22 hazardous areas.
In the SAFE area the CHALLENGER
transmission unit picks up the data from a PC
via VGA / KEY-BOARD / PS2
MOUSE and transmits the data up to 600m to the
CHALLENGER Terminal
on site in hazardous area zone 1 / 2 / 22.
High quality bright images
are visualized at the terminal.
CHALLENGER Terminals on site can be configured
in modular manner to meet with the plant installation requirements.
All the
components including the display, touch screen, keyboard, pointing devices, etc.
are certified for use in hazardous areas as control panel-mounted modules
and can be mounted independently into various enclosures / walls
or into
our CHALLENGER FHP standard enclosure which provide environmental protection.
Connection
