microATX, also known as µATX (sometimes transliterated as mATX is a small form factor standard for computer motherboards, with a maximum size of 244 mm×244 mm. The standard ATX size is 25% longer, at 305 mm × 244 mm.
Currently available microATX motherboards support CPUs from either Intel or AMD (June 2007). There are no known microATX motherboards for processor architectures other than x86 and x86-64.
microATX was explicitly
designed to be backward-compatible with ATX. The mounting points of microATX motherboards
are a subset of those used on full-size ATX boards, and the I/O panel is identical.
Thus, microATX motherboards can be used in full-size ATX cases.
Furthermore,
most microATX motherboards generally use the same power connectors as ATX
motherboards,[2] thus permitting the use of full-size ATX power supplies with
microATX boards.
microATX boards often use the same chipsets (northbridges and southbridges) as full-size ATX boards, allowing them to use many of the same components. However, since microATX tower cases are typically much smaller than ATX tower cases, they usually have fewer I/O ports and expansion slots.
microATX boards typically
have only three PCI or PCI-Express expansion slots, four being the maximum
permitted by the specification.
Most modern ATX motherboards have five or more
PCI or PCI-Express expansion slots.
In order to conserve expansion slots and
case space, many manufacturers produce microATX motherboard with a full-range
of integrated peripherals (especially integrated graphics), which may serve as
the basis for small form factor and media center PCs.
Mini ATX is another ATX-derived form factor board that
uses the same power supply as an ATX board.

MicroATX Motherboards
MicroATX motherboards are only 24 x 24mm (9.6" x 9.6"), and are ideal
for space/cost sensitive applications where less than 4 slots are required.
They enable the same high integration of ATX but with
a smaller footprint that fills the gap between mini ITX and full-size ATX, balancing
performance and expandability.
It is commonly used in the larger of the 'cube'-style cases.

Mini PCI:
An extension of the PCI bus used in portable computers.
Designed for peripherals such as modems and network adapters.
Mini PCI cards are credit-card sized modules that snap onto the motherboard;
they are not inserted into slots like PCMCIA cards (PC Cards).
Mini PCI uses the standard PCI signaling that is found in PCI-based desktop
computers, allowing high-speed transfer peripheral connections in small form
factor devices such as laptop computers.

22 x 23.5 cm LPX
(Low Profile eXtension) was a loosely defined motherboard format widely used
in the 1990s.
There was never any official LPX specification, but the design normally used
consisted of the main I/O ports mounted on the back of the motherboard (something
adopted by the ATX form factor),
and a riser card in the center of the motherboard, on which the PCI and
ISA slots were mounted, the cards sit parallel to the motherboard.
