MiniPCI & Mini PCIeMini PCI was added to PCI version 2.2 for use in laptops. The standard size for Mini PCI cards is approximately a quarter of their full-sized counterparts. There is no access to the card from outside the case, (unlike desktop PCI cards with brackets carrying connectors).

PCIe: PCI Express (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express), officially abbreviated as PCIe, is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard designed to replace the older PCI, PCI-X, and AGP bus standards. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Mini PCIe or Mini PCI Express card is a replacement for the Mini PCI form factor, based on PCI Express. The host device supports both PCI Express and USB 2.0 connectivity, and each card may use either standard. Most laptop computers built after 2005 are based on PCI Express and can have several Mini PCIe Card slots. Dimensions 30×50.95 mm.

PC/104: The PC/104 computer bus (first released in 1992) utilizes 104 pins. These pins include all the normal lines used in the ISA bus

PC/104-Plus:
The PC/104-Plus adds support for the PCI bus, in addition to the ISA bus of the PC/104 standard

PCI-104:
 The PCI-104 form factor includes the PCI connector, but not the ISA connector


ARK and UNO Range compared - Advantech

There are a number of key difference between the two families.

The form factors are indeed similar but the key differentiators are the internals.
The UNO Range is made from the Advantech Single Board range, so the computer as a whole exists on a single board and the only internal wiring is typically a SATA cable to connect to the storage media.
All other components such as the CPU, and memory are on the board and secured down via the chassis casing.
The CPU is thermally connected to the chassis part of the casing.
The memory in some cases is embedded onto the board or can be replaced/upgraded by taking the unit apart. The memory itself is also up against the chassis, so that this too draws heat away from the memory modules in order to increase the reliability.
The Chassis/Memory & Chassis/CPU design also allows for the unit to undergo vibration and shock loadings without the risk of the Memory or CPU from dislodging from the mainboard.

UNO computers come to market later compared with the ARK range, (the UNO Range have released the i7 design 6-12 months after the ARK equivalent). The designs are much more focused on communications. Currently nearly all designs are using 2Gb Ethernet network ports, with some designs using 3 or even 4 ports, as well as the typical assortment of serial communications and USB ports.

The Ark Series computers typically have Mini PCI or Mini PCIe slots for internal expansion, whereas few UNO computers have these, extra features being mounted directly on the main board.
The ARKs typically gain expansion via a riser card system which need to be ordered with the unit. If the project specification is not known then this can be hard to correct later once the unit is on site.

A few UNO computers have PCI-104 expansion, which allows them to integrate Advantech small form factor data acquisition and communications cards range. These can be internally housed in the UNO unit or encased with a modular expansion system.

ARK-3360 High Performance Dual Display Embedded IPC

ARK-3360 is a high performance industrial computer that supports Intel Atom N450/D510 processors, and has an Intel® 3.5 generation chipset built in. It offers dual display and support for high-resolution wide screen, three GbE ports, six USB 2.0 ports, a maximum of six COM ports, and MiniPCIe/MiniPCI expansion for a communication module such as HSDPA, WLAN. It brings high performance and high expansion capabilities to diverse applications.

The new ARK Atom series of embedded IPCs are ultra-compact for easy setup andmaintenance. Both ARK-3202 and ARK-3360 support a wide range of operatingtemperatures, from -20 to 60° C. And for power supply they support a wide input voltage range, from 12 to 24 VDC. The comprehensive I/O functions all feature low power consumption. This innovation extends the embedded designs to applications with thermal and size constraints, including in-vehicle, retail, signage, surveillance, factory control and many others, all made possible by low-power systems. The ARK-3440 boasts an ultra-compact footprint and high performance computing power,
equipped with either the Intel® Core™ i7 processor or Core™ i5, all in a fanless system.
The built-in HDMI decoder improves on the Intel® QM57 integrated graphics with 3D, and is 3.6 times faster than the previous generation’s GM965 integrated graphics chipset, making the ARK-3440 the leading high-performance fanless industrial computer model.

ARK-3440 has the edge on the competition with its graphics engine that supports Full HD commercial broadcast content as well as wide-screen and multiple displays.
The model works with DVI, standard CRT, 24-bit LVDS, and has built-in support for HDMI 1.3.
It features a wide input voltage range: 9 - 34 VDC, and supports up to 4 GB of DDR3 1066 MHz SODIMM.
The model boasts two 2.5-inch SATA bays, 2 Gigabit LANs, 6 USB 2.0 ports, three COM ports, audio, as well as 2 PCI/PCIe.
In addition, 6 programmable function keys are available on the front panel to provide customers with flexibility (ARK-3440A only).

UNO-3072L

The eAutomation Group of Advantech has introduced a new model to the UNO-3000 Series, the UNO-3072L, an excellent cost/performance Celeron M grade embedded automation computer. The UNO-3072L comes with rich peripheral slots, offering two RS-232 ports, two RS-232/422/485 ports with RS-485 automatic flow control, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, four USB ports, and two PCI-bus expansion slots.

The UNO-3072L supports Windows XP (SP2) Embedded with write protection (EWF) with a pre-configured image that has optimized onboard device drivers.
The UNO-3072L also supports Windows 2000/XP and Linux to fulfill the toughest requirements for complete functionality and high reliability. CMB-B72 - Alternative to the ARK-3440

CMB-B72 is based on Intel QM170, and supports 6th Gen Core i7/i5/i3 high performance processor.  
It has extra 2 x expansion slots for more flexible function extention, such as adding 2~4 ports LAN card, extra USB3.0 card, capture card, COM card ... etc, a dexterous design.
Alternative to the ARK-3440 Fanless BOX PC which is being phased out.
(The Commell CMB-B72 case is a little taller (18mm) than the ARK-3440 as it uses a standard half size CPU card.)

DDR SDRAM Info

DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM is similar to conventional SDRAM,
but doubles the rate by transferring data twice per cycle.

It uses 2.5 volts as opposed to 3.3 volts used in SDR SDRAM (Single Data Rate),
and requires 184-pin DIMM modules rather than 168-pin DIMM modules used by SDR SDRAM.

Two types of DDR are available at the time of writing: PC1600 & PC2100.
PC1600 DDR SDRAM running at 100MHz will produce about 1.6GB/s memory bandwidth.
PC2100 running at 133MHz will produce 2.1GB/s memory bandwidth.
High memory bandwidth makes DDR an ideal solution for high performance PC, workstations and servers.

DDR2 SDRAM  or  double-data-rate two,  synchronous dynamic random access memory, is a computer memory technology.
It is a part of the SDRAM family of random access memory technologies, which is one of many DRAM implementations.

DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs have 240 pins (as opposed to 184 pins on DDR DIMMs, and 168 pins on SDRAM DIMMs).
Operating voltage: 1.8 V (compared to DDR's 2.5 V)

The advantage of DDR2 over its predecessor DDR SDRAM is the ability for much higher clock speeds, due to design improvements. With a clock frequency of 100 MHz, single-data-rate SDRAM transfers data on every rising edge of the clock pulse, thus achieving an effective 100 MHz data transfer rate.
However, both DDR and DDR2 are double pumped; they transfer data on the rising and falling edges of the clock, at points of 0.0 V and 2.5 V (1.8 V for DDR2), achieving an effective rate of 200 MHz (and a theoretical bandwidth of 1.6 GB/s) with the same clock frequency. The difference of DDR2 to DDR is a doubled bus frequency for the same physical clock rate, thus doubling the effective data rate another time.

DDR2's bus frequency is boosted by electrical interface improvements, on-die termination, prefetch buffers and off-chip drivers. However, latency is greatly increased as a trade-off. The DDR2 prefetch buffer is 4 bits wide, whereas it is 2 bits wide for DDR and 8 bits wide for DDR3.

Power savings are achieved primarily due to an improved manufacturing process, resulting in a drop in operating voltage (1.8 V compared to DDR's 2.5 V). The lower memory clock frequency could also help a board designer save power; DDR2 can use a real clock frequency 1/2 that of SDRAM whilst maintaining the same bandwidth.

Note: DDR2-xxx (or DDR-xxx) denotes effective clockspeed, whereas PC2-xxxx (or PC-xxxx) denotes theoretical bandwidth (though it is often rounded up or down). Bandwidth is calculated by taking effective clockspeed and multiplying by eight.
This is because DDR2 can transfer 64 bits of data each clock cycle, and since a byte is comprised of 8 bits, this equates to 8 bytes of data per clock cycle.

Some manufacturers label their DDR2-667 sticks as PC2-5400 instead of PC2-5300. At least one manufacturer has reported this reflects successful testing at a faster-than standard speed. [1]

Backwards compatibility
DDR2 DIMMs are not backwards compatible with DDR DIMMs. The notch on DDR2 DIMMs is in a different position than DDR DIMMs, and the pin density is slightly higher than DDR DIMMs. DDR2 is a 240-pin module, DDR is a 184-pin module
