Testo IR Thermometer Instruments

Some Testo instruments feature Topsafe: safe instrument covers for use in the food industry, description, click here.

Emissivity: Make sure that the Emissivity is set correctly for type of surface material being measured.
Refer to page 65 of the Testo catalogue 2001.
e.g. Emissivity of Concrete: 0.93,  Smooth Ice: 0.97,  Iron with rolled skin: 0.77,  Glass: 0.94,  Wood:0.94,
Black anodised heat sink: 0.98,  Plastics: 0.94,  Brass, oxidised: 0.61,  Paper: 0.97,  Steel, oxidised: 0.79,
Clay, fired: 0.91,  Transformer paint: 0.94,  Brick, mortar & plaster: 0.93

Re-calibration of IR Thermometers:
The IR thermometers are not re-calibrated as they are not a particularly accurate way of measuring temperature.
To check the IR thermometer, use the cup shaped Comparator, part number 0563.9999   $xx+GST.
Have a reference instrument such as the Testo 110 calibrated.
Insert the 110's probe into one of the holes in the side of the bottom of the comparator.
Wait for the reading to stabilise then point the IR thermometer into the top of the cup.
Take into consideration the correction factor of the 110 and the stated accuracy of the IR thermometer.

Raynger IP plug-in accessory IR probes

The Raynger IP is a family of plug-in accessory IR probes that
convert a DMM or thermocouple meter into a close focus, noncontact IR thermometer.
The IP-M is designed for use with a digital multimeter (DMM),
Chart Recorder or Data Logger and outputs a signal of one millivolt per degree.
The correlated millivolt output converts the digital multimeter display into a temperature readout.
A switch in the battery compartment allows for the selection of either C or F temperature scales.

The IP-J and IP-K probe models are designed to work with either J or K thermocouple meters respectively.
All IP models feature a slide switch to control the on/off function and a sleep mode protects the battery in the event that the unit is accidentally left on.

The IP is engineered to measure targets as small as 2.5mm (0.1 inches) and the
probe tip and pencil grip design provide flexibility when making measurements in tight or
inaccessible areas.
The IP has a high immunity to thermal shock due to a unique compensated detection system making it a good choice for problem applications where rapid swings in ambient temperature are present.

Testo 880 Thermal Imaging Camera

for inspecting switchboards,  and termite inspections

These cameras are ideal for checking medium to large electrical switchboards, for two main purposes:

- Annual scans for hot spots, to minimise fire risks for insurance purposes

- Condition monitoring of switchboards – regular thermal photos can be taken of the switchboard, and elements that are getting hotter over a period of time can be identified and replaced before they fail catastrophically.

The Testo 880 is ideal for these uses as it allows photographs to be taken and stored on an SD card for later analysis and comparison with prior photographs.

The Testo 880-3 is also well suited for pest and building inspectors as it offers a good resolution, 8 colour palettes, and choice of standard or telephoto lenses. The photo storage and USB connection capability enables professional reports to be generated quickly and easily.
