Seafood corporation uses MicroLite to monitor highly perishable products during shipping
We spoke to Robert Soares from the Sea Star Seafood Corporation about how MicroLite loggers provide the ideal solution for high maintenance products during transportation. Soares feels the minimal initial investment required by the MicroLite has been recouped repeatedly. Established in 1983, Sea Star Seafood Corporation brings a worldwide resource to retail grocery customers in case-ready solutions for frozen and refrigerated seafood sections. Sea Star Seafood markets under its own brand, Beacon Light, as well as providing customized private label programs. Sea Star continually ships highly perishable frozen seafood samples to brokers and customers across the United States.
MicroLite data loggers are used to insure that the proper amount of frozen gel packs for refrigeration are used in each shipment. Too few would result in product spoilage, and too many result in excessive air freight charges. MicroLite loggers provide accurate and reliable confirmation of temperatures during shipping, and result in substantial cost savings in air freight, refrigerant packs, and product loss.
During packing of samples, a MicroLite logger is placed in the insulated shipping box with a postage-paid return envelope for its return to Sea Star after delivery. The logger is programmed to start when the courier arrives to pick up the package. Samples are recorded at 1 minute intervals during the overnight shipment. The logger is returned to Sea Star and the data is downloaded for analysis. Sea Star's requirements called for a water resistant, compact, accurate, low cost monitor, and the MicroLite met all of these points. The intuitive, easy to use MicroLab software facilitates detailed analysis of the shipment from origin to destination and allows Sea Star to optimize its shipping process. The MicroLite has paid for itself many times over in shipping and materials savings.

Noise Indicator teaches people to speak quietly to reduce noise pollution
Noise reduction through Noise Awareness

The Org Delta Indicator Program
Org-Delta offers a solution to the common problem of noise pollution and stale air in workplace and schools.
Noise and stale air can be very debilitating and even harmful in environments such as offices, call centres, factories, kindergartens and schools.
The ORG-Delta Indicator Program assists in overcoming these undesirable effects and provides annunciation when harmful conditions arise.
The Problem:
In working or schooling environments we face the situation that as background noise increases so does our mode of speaking to overcome this. Before long our voices are raised and we contribute to the increase in background noise as we strive to make ourselves heard. The result is simply – the overall noise level rises.
The Solution:
The Noise Indicator provides a visual signal of where the level is and thus promotes an automatic reduction.
The Aim:

It is desirable to achieve lower levels of noise even when the indicator is notpresent. To do this the Noise indicator is introduced into the environment as part of a project to encourage people to develop a greater sensitivity to the problems of noise pollution. One unit can be moved around multiple rooms so that the occupants become more aware and develop restraint.
By means of an integrated noise level measuring device in the base of the unit the actual level is measured and compared to pre-settable values. Smily-Face style indicators in a traffic light configuration then display the current situation in that environment:
- Green = All is well
- Yellow-orange = Early Warning
- Red = Noise level is too high
One recognizes the visual cue that one should tone it down.
In Production environments this lends itself to objectively showing the requirement to don Ear Protection. Modern work practices increasingly focus on injury prevention of all types but hearing was often not considered as seriously as other hazardous factors. The Org Delta Noise indicator Program can be used to reduce the risk exposure.
The indicator operates as a stand-alone device and does not need to be associated with individuals. The unit can be adjusted from 55 dB(A) upwards. The yellow and red thresholds are independently set and a programmed delay prevents rapid variations from generating fluctuating visual signals. To complete the program a three tone gong is sounded to advise acoustically that the danger threshold has been breached. The unit is presented in a solid, long-life metal housing on stable rails for table top use. It can easily be moved from location to location as required.
Technical Specifications:

Combi – Noise and Carbon Dioxide Indicator
This unit adds a carbon dioxide detector which measures the amount of the gas present in the surrounding room. Should this rise to more than 1500 ppm then the red indicator starts to flash. If it increases further to above 2500ppm then the indicator is a steady red showing that ventilation is required.

First Look At Atdec's Radical New Monitor Mounting Design
Jerome Green, CEO of Atdec
“We set out to make a statement with Levitate, and we're thrilled with what we accomplished. We took risks never contemplated before in ergonomic work tool design and the result is a feat of engineering. No other mount offers Levitate’s ease of use and versatility, and from a design standpoint the remarkable visual appeal speaks for itself.
Simply put, there's nothing else like it on the market today”
The new Atdec Levitate range is due to be available in February 2011.

New AnywhereUSB/14 extends 14 USB ports over IP networks
This latest release in the AnywhereUSB family includes 14 USB ports, each of which is able to simultaneously connect to a separate host. The rack mount enclosure with dual power supplies makes it highly suited to data centre deployment. Other models include 2 or 5 USB ports and the AnywhereUSB TS includes 4 USB ports and 4 RS-232 RJ45 ports.
AnywhereUSB products are network-attached USB hubs that connect USB peripheral devices to a PC over a Local Area Network. Relocating the host PC to a remote location translates to smaller workstations, enabling deployment without a local PC in kiosks, ATMs, restaurant kitchens, manufacturing lines or any hostile or non-secure area where having a local PC is not practical.
- Access and monitor USB & serial devices over TCP/IP
- Works with existing POS or other application software
- Excellent in virtualized environments such as VMware®
- Creates systems redundancy and increases security
- Simplifies operations and reduces IT support
