Event & Timing Data Loggers

Event & Timing Data Loggers

Most data loggers simply take measurements and record them regularly at fixed time intervals. But what if you don’t want to record continuously, but you just want to know when an event happens? For example you might need to know when a motor switches on or off, or when the power drops out and for how long. It’s not convenient to use a regular data logger for this, as you’ll get large amounts of data that you have to process just to find out a small piece of information, and the logger’s memory could even fill up before it records the event you’re interested in.

The solution is to use an event data logger, which monitors its inputs and only records data when a specified event happens. There are only a few such devices on the market. Some are general purpose with “dry contact” connections; some can be fully programmed to log whatever events you want based on whatever inputs you have; while others are designed for specific purposes such as monitoring mains power for outages, surges and sags. Scroll down to see our selection.

AEMC Data Logger Model L452

The Model L452 is a low cost, simple to use, two-channel data logger. It records DC voltage, DC current, pulses and events. Its two input channels allow the user to connect to various types of sensors in order to record data such as pressure, temperature, flow, humidity and more. This logger can also be used to record events such as machine run time. Each channel’s real-time measurement is displayed on the LCD screen.

The L452 communicates via USB or Bluetooth for configuration and data transfer to a PC using the free DataView software included with the unit. The logger can also be configured using its front panel with a very simple user interface.

DataTaker Data Loggers

DT80-85From two channel data loggers up to systems with hundreds of analog inputs and many digital inputs. These loggers read & store analog & digital data in engineering units from just about any electrical sensor or analog instrument. Thermocouples, transistor temperature sensors, RTDs, strain gauges, current loop outputs from other instruments, voltages, currents, resistance, frequency, period, digital state, pulses etc. For AC power measurements you can connect a Modbus power meter such as Dent PowerScout.

The loggers are easily set up for basic data logging jobs using the dEX graphical browser based interface. However if you have a special requirement, for example to start logging when an event happens, you can program the logger using its extensive scripting language to do almost any task. Not confident about programming? Ask ESIS’ engineers to do it for you – we have experience programming DataTakers for a wide range of tasks.

ACR PowerWatch Voltage Disturbance Recorder

ACR PowerWatchDo you have equipment failing repeatedly or behaving strangely? Expensive out of warranty repairs due to voltage surges? Get to the root of the problem by measuring your incoming mains voltage and recording every surge, sag, spike and dip that happens.

PowerWatch 220/240V is the easiest way to monitor and record critical voltage disturbance information from any 220/240 volt Australian power outlet. Just set up your pre-determined voltage threshold values, or use the industry standard default values, and plug it in to a GPO power point. No wiring or dangerous connections required.

The data you record with the PowerWatch can be easily presented to your electricity authority or building manager, for discussion and complaints about power quality.

Applications:

  • Troubleshooting repeated equipment failures
  • Medical and scientific equipment
  • Point-of-sale terminals
  • Computers
  • Other sensitive electronic equipment

ACR SmartReader Plus 9 Pulse Data Logger

SmartReader Plus 9The SmartReader Plus 9 is a versatile data logger designed for easy counting and recording of switch contact closures and voltage pulses. It has two pulse/contact channels. Durability is assured with a 3-year logger warranty and 10-year battery life.

While not strictly an “event” logger, this device counts pulses in each time interval and records the pulse counts. It’s mainly designed to connect to things like water and gas meters, but it can be used for any application where you need to know how many times a pulse or switch type event happened in each time interval.

Applications:

Monitoring fluid (eg. water meters) and air flow, energy consumption from power meter pulse outputs, wind speed, shaft RPM, and rainfall (from tipping bucket sensors), etc.
