IR Temperature Measurement

Some Testo instruments feature Topsafe: safe instrument covers for use in the food industry, description, click here.

Emissivity: Make sure that the Emissivity is set correctly for type of surface material being measured. e.g. Emissivity of Concrete: 0.93,  Smooth Ice: 0.97,  Iron with rolled skin: 0.77,  Glass: 0.94,  Wood:0.94, Black anodised heat sink: 0.98,  Plastics: 0.94,  Brass, oxidised: 0.61,  Paper: 0.97,  Steel, oxidised: 0.79, Clay, fired: 0.91,  Transformer paint: 0.94,  Brick, mortar & plaster: 0.93

Re-calibration of IR Thermometers:
The IR thermometers are not re-calibrated as they are not a particularly accurate way of measuring temperature.
To check the IR thermometer, use the cup shaped Comparator, part number 0563.9999
Have a reference instrument such as the Testo 110 calibrated.
Insert the 110’s probe into one of the holes in the side of the bottom of the comparator.
Wait for the reading to stabilise then point the IR thermometer into the top of the cup.
Take into consideration the correction factor of the 110 and the stated accuracy of the IR thermometer.

testo 830-T1 - Infrared thermometer

The Testo 830-T1 IR thermometer with laser measurement spot marker and 10:1 optics is suitable for non-contact surface temperature measurements in any industry.

Features:

  • Adjustable emissivity from 0.2 to 1.0
  • 10:1 optics and high resolution processor for accurate measurement results
  • Audible/visual alarm
  • Backlit display

Overview of the advantages of the Testo 830-T1 infrared thermometer

Non-contact measurement of the surface temperature is accurate and fast with the Testo 830-T1 infrared thermometer (2 measurements a second). To summarise the IR thermometer offers the following advantages:

  • High resolution processor for utmost accuracy (resolution 0.1 °C)
  • 10:1 optics for precise measurements even at medium distances
  • IR thermometer with 1 point laser measurement spot marker to target the measuring point
  • Two alarm limit values that can be defined as required
  • Visual and acoustic alarm if limit value exceeded
  • Min./max. value display and hold function (to record a measured value)
  • Convenient one-handed operation thanks to the ergonomic gun-style design
  • Clear, illuminated digital display

The Testo 830T1 has the option for the user to set the emissivity prior to measurements been carried out. This allows you to adjust it precisely to the material of the surface being measured to achieve the best possible measurement results. For reflected surfaces, we recommend using an emission tape (optional) which makes the IR measurement significantly easier.
