WINDCAP® Ultrasonic Wind Sensor WMT700

Vaisala WINDCAP® Ultrasonic Wind Sensor WMT700 Series is a robust and reliable ultrasonic anemometer. It measures surface wind, which is one of the key parameters for meteorology and aviation. The WMT700 Series meets the updated – WMO-No.8 guide, 7th edition – and ICAO requirements.

Accurate and Maintenance-free
The WMT700 series has a durable full steel structure with welded arms, clear north indication, and one-point, quick bayonet-style mounting. It has has no moving parts, and it is resistant to contamination and corrosion. It measures accurately and produces reliable data in demanding wind conditions and climates without periodic or on-demand maintenance. Self-diagnostics and validation of measurement are standard features. The 60-min. average is available for polar coordinates and vectors.

Standard and Heated Models
The sensor operates with a power supply of 9 … 36 VDC. For the heated model, an additional heating power supply of 24 … 36 VDC is required. Thermostatically controlled heaters in the transducer heads and arms of the heated model prevent build-up of freezing rain or snow. In addition, accessories are available for mounting and connecting the WMT700. To minimize interference from birds, a bird prevention kit is available.

WM30 Combined Wind Sensor

The Vaisala Wind Sensor WM30 is a compact and economical wind speed and direction sensor. The rotating cup anemometer at the top of the unit provides a linear response to wind speed. The vane, which is attached to the body of the unit, provides a fast response to wind direction.

Accurate wind measurement
The shape, dimensions, and material of the cups contribute to accurate measurement. The cups are carefully tested to give linear response between the wind speed and the angular velocity of the cup wheel. The wind vane is located directly beneath the cup assembly and is made of a durable, lightweight material that ensures fast response and low inertia.

Built for harsh conditions
The cups and vane are made of reinforced PA plastic which guarantees a rigid structure even at the highest wind speeds. The electronics are located inside an anodized aluminium core which creates not only a firm body, but a watertight enclosure for the electronics as well. This provides full protection against water, dust, pollutants and electromagnetic interference.

Key Features

  • Combined wind speed and direction sensor with aordable price

Displays to suit Vaisala Wind and Weather Sensors

Esis also supplies complete ‘Wind Speed and Direction Systems’ and ‘All Weather Systems’ including graphical displays, for Marine or Fixed installation. These provide wind speed, direction, temp, pressure, humidity & rainfall measurements, with customisable graphical displays, data logging, and integration with existing ship systems.

The systems use Vaisala sensors WMT52 and WXT520.

A system typically comprises one or two sensors, a WSDC (Wind Speed & Direction Computer), one or more WSDDs (Wind Speed & Direction Displays), and an NMEA Converter (optional if spare serial feeds for Gyro and Log are not available).
The system is capable of providing additional interfaces for other systems on board a ship like Command Information & Management System, Weapon and/or Fire Control Systems.

Please enquire for details.

Data Loggers to suit Vaisala Wind and Weather Sensors

Most of Vaisala’s range of wind and weather sensors only come with a digital data output. To record these measurements requires a data logger that can read data from a serial link such as RS-485.

Data loggers that can do this include:

Datataker DT80 series (opens in a new tab)
requires custom programming – please enquire

The Nokeval-7470 RS-485 to analog converter listed above can be used to obtain a 4-20mA analog output from these sensors, for connection to other equipment.

Limit Your Light Emissions

Flashing lights can be disturbing so it is smart to dim them to the optimal level. With the help of PWD20W you can be in conformity with the regulations, such as the German General Administrative Regulation for the Marking and Lightning
of Obstacles to Air Navigation. At the same time you can create a comfortable living environment for the surrounding community.

The conditions on top of a wind turbine require a robust device, like PWD20W. Its performance and reliability have proven to be top-class. The hood heaters prevent ice accumulation on the device. A special firmware ensures that flashing lights near the visibility sensor are not mixed with light pulses from the sensor

Especially for Wind Turbines

Visibility Sensor PWD20W

Wind turbines are usually equipped with two red obstruction lights each. These obstruction lights flash at set intervals by day and night. Residents in the vicinity of a wind turbine complain of the brightness of the obstruction lights at night. Visibility data is used to control the intensity of these obstruction lights, thereby reducing the disturbance to the neighbours, yet not undermining aviation safety.

PWD20W software has been specially designed for the wind turbine application. The infrared light emitted by obstruction lights may significantly disturb conventional visibility sensors. However, PWD20W filters out the intereference to eliminate the eect of obstruction lights on the visibility measurement. Red LED lights intefere with neither the visibility measurement nor the control of the lights.
