DENT Instruments, a highly regarded US based data logger manufacturer, have decided to retire the SMARTlogger “Time Of Use” (TOU) data logger product line. Effective immediately, DENT will no longer be manufacturing any of the SMARTlogger models.
DENT’s Time Of Use logger range are event data loggers: they only record the times at which events happen, typically things switching on or off. For example, the lighting logger records the times at which lights are switched on or off, by detecting the light level. The CT model comes with a current clamp, and it records when the current flow starts and stops, to any equipment it is connected to.

At the time of writing, DENT Instruments still have the following models left in stock:
- 4G-TOU-L Lighting on/off time logger
- 4G-TOU-CT Current Transformer on/off time logger
- 4G-TOU-C Contact input on/off time logger
The 4G-TOU-M Magnetic model is no longer available.
DENT will continue to support the SMARTlogger series, through normal technical support channels, for general questions and warranty issues. Software and other documentation will continue to be posted on their website. The SMART-COM-PAK, SmartLogger communications package, is still available for purchase as well.
Other products still manufactured by DENT include the EliteProXC 3-phase electrical data logger, the PowerScout range of Modbus energy meters, and the TCA-5 Rogowski Coil to 5 amp converter.
In keeping with DENT’s excellent reputation for product quality and design, the TOU SmartLoggers have been a good product here in Australasia, with only one warranty claim in all the years we have sold them, & that warranty claim was actually the CT associated with the 4G-TOU-CT, & not the logger itself. They have a long life, as the button battery that powers them, is readily available, & easy to procure, being a common type.
The most popular 4G-TOUs we sold in Australasia, are CT types, followed by Contact, Lighting, & then the Mag model.
