Temperature and humidity data loggers are essential in the safe transport of goods, especially perishables such as fresh produce. Here are a few tips on how to use and place data loggers in shipments.

Man Calibrating

At ESIS, we offer a range of data loggers, including from Fourtec, an Australian manufacturer. According to the Fourtec team, best practices for data loggers include:

1. Calibrate the data logger before using.

2. Pre-define the relevant users’ email addresses during set-up of the logger.

3. Place data loggers in different locations within the shipment to provide more accurate information about the overall temperature and humidity conditions.

4. Set the loggers to send an automatic abnormalities report of recorded data to enable distribution channel managers to monitor the multiple distribution/stopping points.

5. Avoid placing data loggers near heat sources such as heaters or engines, as this can skew the temperature readings and lead to inaccurate results.

6. Ensure that the data logger is secured from any potential damage during transportation

7. Monitor the data in real time.

For Fourtec loggers, this can be done by downloading the FourtecLite App. FourtecLite is Fourtec’s android mobile application utility that enables reviewing sampling session history, configuring devices, and monitoring sampling sessions. The FourtecLite app licence to use is provided at no cost and can be downloaded from Fourtec’s website.
